I recently shot Corey and Angie’s wedding and reception in the lovely Grand Island, Nebraska (or actually a really small town outside of Grand Island). Alex and Matt were married a few weeks ago in Omaha NE with a nice reception at the Tip Top building downtown. These two are crazy in love with each other. I’m not usually the mushy type, but I’ll tell you true/passionate love is fun to capture. I love the first couple pictures from their “first look”. Hope you enjoy!

Morning weddings are the coolest

I had the honor of photographing Jason and Teresa’s wedding this past Saturday. It was one of only a few morning weddings I have been able to shoot. As a wedding photographer I can’t begin to tell you how amazing it is to be able to shoot a great wedding and still be home in time to go out on a date with my amazing wife. Here are a few of my favorites from the day.

I shot Katie and Dave’s wedding last October at James Arthur Vineyard just outside Lincoln, NE. The couple got married a few months earlier and decided to do a small ceremony with friends and family. Katie told me in our first meeting there was one thing she had to have and that was great portraits. It was a pretty cold day but they braved the cold and I think we achieved our goal.

Last week I was in Vegas at WPPI. The worlds largest wedding and portrait photographer convention and trade show. One of the nights I went out with a friend Victor Sizemore to a shoot he had planned in the desert. The shoot was styled by another friend from high school - Grey Likes Weddings. It’s not what I normally do… you know shooting models in a dry lake bed in the middle of the desert. But if you’ve read my blog in the past you know that I believe it is important to step out and stretch yourself as a photographer if you are going to continue to grow. Here are a few from the shoot.

Taylor & Amanda Got Married – In Dallas

In January I had the opportunity to travel to Dallas and shoot Taylor and Amanda’s wedding. I was second shooting with my closest friend Michael Norwood. Its good to have friends who are some of the best in the business. Check out Michael’s work at www.mnpblog.com.

Apparently its a tradition amongst Taylor’s friends to give the groom a little beat down before leaving for the night. This shot was just after he broke free.

I’m Gonna Try Real Hard! – Lincoln Wedding Photography

I’ve been inspired by some photographers in Kansas City named The Parsons. They are not only amazing photographers but they made the commitment to blog photos from every shoot they did in 2009 and they succeeded! So here is the beginning of my attempt to do the same thing in 2010. I decided that while sorting through a wedding I would grab just a few that catch my attention and put them on the blog. We shall see how it goes.

January 30 was our first wedding for 2010. Derek & Madison are an amazing couple and over our time working together became much more than just clients. Here are a few that caught my eye.

Photographer Note: I just purchased the new Lightroom presets from Totally Rad Actions. I’m not that into actions or purchasing presets but these things are great. I used a few on these images and did some things that I don’t normally do, but I just wanted to show some of the capabilities. I believe one of the most important things to building a sustainable business is consistency. That’s the beauty of these presets. If you know Lightroom then you can make small tweaks that will give a look and feel that is more tailored to who you are. Anyway, that’s a long enough commercial. I’m just saying, you should give them a shot.

The first of many brides – Omaha Wedding Photographer

So way back, Angie came across some of my portrait work on a friend’s desk at her office. It just so happened that she was engaged and was looking for a photographer. It also just so happened I was starting my wedding business. It was serendipity at its best. (yes I had to look up the definition) The crazy thing was, she was planning way in advance. So even though she was the first to take a chance on me, it ended up that I shot a bagillion weddings before hers. All that to say, she took a gamble and it paid off by getting an experienced wedding photographer for the price of a newbie.

Angie and Patrick got married at the amazing Magnolia Hotel in downtown Omaha. This is one of, if not my favorite, venues in town.

I always love it when the ceremony and reception are in the same place (it makes my job a lot easier). Here at the Magnolia there is no need for compromise to make that happen. The courtyard is amazing, the ballroom is fabulous, and the catering is top notch. If you’re looking for a venue I highly recommend it. I also recommend that if you choose the Magnolia then you should hire us to do your photography. I’m just sayin’…

Personal note to Angie & Patrick – I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. You guys had a lot of faith in me and I will never forget that. Also, thanks so much for continuing to refer your friends to me. That’s the biggest compliment I could ever ask for.

angie's bridal | trying something different – Omaha Bridal Session

I have been looking forward to posting these since the day I shot them. Pat and Angie’s wedding was this Friday so I am finally in the clear and can share these images with you. These were done as kind of a test shoot for me. Bridal sessions are not nearly as popular in the mid-west as they are down south, but I really enjoy them and would love to do more of them. I told Angie I would be happy to give her a free bridal session if she would allow me to experiment a little with lighting and posing and she was totally up for it. So we headed down to the awesome Magnolia Hotel in downtown Omaha, and I went for a “high fashion” feel. Here’s what we got.

And we had to throw in some good old natural light stuff out in the courtyard. This is also where the wedding was held. Look for that post coming soon.
